After nearly two years in the research and development phase, the first prototype of the Micromus waterless composting toilet is now undergoing trialling. The design incorporates many new features and a simplicity that has few rivals. The Micromus is a continuous reaction type toilet, with a single composting chamber and vestibule similar to those in the Minimus design. The underfloor height requirement is only 700mm, making it one of the lowest WCT designs yet. Key to it's performance is a simple yet ingenious mechanism to prevent "pyramiding", a phenomenon common in other similar designs.

You can now download a very comprehensive set of plans / instructions for the construction of a "Minimus" dry composting toilet from this website. The Minimus is a well proven, simple composting toilet that works on the principle of mouldering. Compost is easily removed from the rear of the toilet after 12 months of operation. It is cheap to build, easy to operate and can handle peak loads effectively. Look out for more free downloads in the coming months that will help with greywater treatment, maintenance tips and other compost toilet plans.

On the 5th of February Jack Sim, director of the World Toilet Organization and I held talks in Geelong, Victoria. I was quite inspired by Jacks story, one of business success folowed by a desire to make a difference to the world. The talks were informal, however, we have discussed the possibility of translating the plans for the minimus composting toilet into several languages and making them available as free down loads from this site. The english language version will soon be available as a free download.

I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to deliver some short lectures on biogas and dry composting toilet construction whilst in Vietnam. This is me talking to a small group of village leaders in Dong Le, central Vietnam.
